Business and pleasure trips meeting grey area, claims survey

Taking a partner of a family member away on a business trip is becoming more prevalent in the travel industry.

Travel Weekly reports that a massive one in three UK employees are inviting their partners and families along on business trips - a practice known as 'bleasure stays'.

An increasing number of employees are aspiring to do more on their business trips than just conduct business - rent a car to drive around the city, perhaps - as more than half (52 per cent) are travelling more on business now than they did five years ago.

As a result, 82 per cent feel their personal relationships are being affected by the amount of business travel they are doing - perhaps causing a rise in the number of unofficial persons joining employees on trips. In addition, 48 per cent of travellers on business don't like the 'pet peeve' of being away from their families.

Companies don't seem to mind employees taking another person on their trip, however; as 45 per cent of employers are supporting the new trend.

Jeff Diskin - part of global customer marketing for the survey's creator Hilton HHonors Worldwide - commented on the figures on Travel Daily UK: "I am delighted to see such a high percentage of business travellers finding new ways so they can spend more quality time with their family."
